Installing Plugins (modules/blocks) for Moodle

Sure, I did

1. Installing a module/plugin/block

As a Zip File

login as an administrator
then from left navigation
site administration
plugins
install add ons
in next screen
select what you want to install module or block
select/browse the zip file to upload
(sure, you need to download a zipped version or you need to create zip – i used 7zip to zip worked)
(do not keep multiple unnecessary folder levels in the zip file, just zip the folder where the module starts)
(name your zip file appropriately, use the name of the module as it is named in the module code/meta information)
click check-box on TOS/Agreement
and click install add ons/upload file
then in next screen, you will be shown some dependencies
then you can keep clicking continue, until you see a success.
Manually by Uploading Files
To install modules, you will need your modules to be uploaded to mod folder, where for blocks you need to upload to blocks folder
Make sure, you have write permissions
after you upload, when you login as an admin, you will be taken to go through the steps to finish the installation.
Sometimes, as part of the install, you will also need to configure the plugin.
